Vivid reiterates benefits of automation

Finishing solutions specialist Vivid Laminating Technologies has again opened up about the benefits of automation, after revealing one of its customers was able to significantly enhance production by investing in new kit.

Based in Edinburgh, family-owned DTP purchased a VeloBlade 68 digital die-cutting system from Vivid to support its production of bespoke print solutions to a range of markets, primarily packaging products.

According to DTP, staff were spending too much time manually operating a laser cutter and it had identified automation as a way of freeing up staff to take on other work.

Though the laser cutter remains in operation alongside the new VeloBlade 68, Alun Joseph, managing director at DTP, says the investment has allowed the company to dedicate work to certain machines.

“We’ve been producing several small packaging items on the VeloBlade, a range of beautifully digitally foiled boxes for hand soap on carton board and another box for mail order cakes made from 1.5mm microflute lined with Colorplan.

Compared with our laser cutter, we are now able to produce a wider range of products to a more exacting standard

“Other jobs have included round-cornered business cards, angle folded promotional flyers and pocket folders. The versatility of the system is great, the array of stocks as well as items we can produce is very impressive”.

“Compared with our laser cutter, we are now able to produce a wider range of products to a more exacting standard.

“With the various tools, it is also a very capable machine that we look forward to doing much more with.”
