Acquisitions allow for investment in new machine

Following the acquisition of a string of local trade printers since November last year, Crystal & Son is due to install a Polar N 78 ECO to keep up with growing business.

Having acquired more work in the bingo and raffle ticket markets as well as lottery and scratch cards, the company has grown its staff numbers from eight to 19 in the last 12 months.

After purchasing an affordable guillotine at drupa 2016, Jonathan Crystal, managing director of Crystal & Sons, found that his operators were using this as a table to stack work on, ready to go on the firm’s pre-existing Polar.

Although Crystal initially contemplated purchasing a second-hand machine, Heidelberg was able to offer him a finance arrangement which allowed the company to buy new.

The Polar N 78 ECO is an easy-to-operate high-speed cutter with a knife changing system and is programable for industrial use with a 5.5” monochrome display.

The operators are absolutely delighted with the investment. It is the Rolls Royce of guillotines, with the best reputation for quality and reliability

“The operators are absolutely delighted with the investment,” says Crystal. “It is the Rolls Royce of guillotines, with the best reputation for quality and reliability.”

The firm has recently taken over West View Printers, Bingo Ticket Company and Lucky Lotteries, and brought this work in-house, as well as purchasing Kelly’s Eye which is still operating as a separate trading entity.

The purchase of the new Polar will eliminate bottlenecks in the plant which have arisen due to an increase in the work completed onsite.
