The cutting edge of safety and productivity

A new cutting tool which promises to deliver “uncompromising safety and productivity” has been launched by Blackman & White.

The manufacturer’s successful Genesis range of cutting machines features multi-tool functionality with modular laser, router and knife cutting on a single bed, and can be ordered on either a conveyorised or flatbed table.

Developed by the same technical team as the Genesis range, Genesis-Z comes with a list of new enhanced features such as a virtual safety fence, improved software, and registration mark recognition technology.

In what is described as an industry first, the new virtual fence feature is a dual-zone machine safety proximity sensor that automatically slows and pauses the machine when something is sensed to be too close. The machine will then carry on from the point it stopped.

In a bid to improve the safety of its machines, this feature protects the welfare of staff and removed the risk of a loss of production from interruption.

I am very proud of our technical development team who help Blackman & White create technology that delivers significant cost savings and quality improvement for our customers

ViZeo is Blackman & White’s registration mark recognition technology. This feature makes fast graphic and file reading, as well as faster cutting with improved accuracy, possible. The firm states: “Boasting one-pass registration mark scanning system, no longer will cut speeds be restricted by ‘one at a time’ reg dot or low-resolution error-prone reg reading.”

Because ViZeo reads all the dots in high resolution from the moving gantry, pre-production cutting time is reduced.

Commenting on the new machine, which launched officially at FESPA Global Print Expo in May, Alex White, Blackman & White’s managing director says: “The Genesis-Z represents a step-change in the cutting machine market.

“We have introduced a number of pioneering technologies and I am very proud of our technical development team who help Blackman & White create technology that delivers significant cost savings and quality improvement for our customers.”
