The company has invested in an Easymatrix 106 CS due to the development of its carton business

Thomson Print & Packaging, a family-owned business that produces a range of printed labels, brochures, books, folding cartons, and corporate stationary, has invested in new equipment from HEIDELBERG following an expansion of the business.

Based in Edinburgh the company recently moved its operations to a larger 12,000sq ft factory at The Gyle. The new premises have enabled the company to install large-format cut-and-crease equipment from HEIDELBERG as it develops its carton business.

Michael Thomson, production director at Thomson Print & Packaging, says: “We evaluated a few suppliers, but the HEIDELBERG Easymatrix 106 CS provides us with the best solution for our requirements. We have outsourced this type of work previously, resulting in a substantial productivity gain by moving this operation in-house.”

Barry Thomson, sales director at Thomson Print & Packaging, adds: “We supply a wide range of print and packaging products, mainly catering to the beverages industry in the UK and Ireland. This new 12,000sq ft facility supports our growth plans regarding developing our carton business and will continue during 2024 with the installation of a new folder gluer, capable of finishing difficult carton styles in a single pass.”

The Easymatrix offers increased productivity, with a machine speed of up to 7,700 sheets per hour and a maximum sheet format of 750 × 1,060mm (29.53 × 41.73in), compared to the use of conventional hand platen and cylinder machines.

Thomson Print & Packaging has plans to employ four more staff members at its new location which brings the business closer to its main customers, enabling the company to reduce its carbon footprint in fulfilment.

HEIDELBERG states: “With an increase in productivity and a significant reduction in waste the Easymatrix 106 CS is expected to contribute towards operational sustainability. HEIDELBERG is proud to be a part of this firm’s journey of sustainability and constant growth.”
