Midland Regional Printers has invested in a software solution from Imprint-MIS designed specifically for the company’s requirements

Midland Regional Printers (MRP) opened its doors in 1969 and has grown significantly ever since, now employing 69 members of staff. The company is unusual amongst modern printers in that it still carries out 95 percent of work in-house. This includes digital, labels, packaging, commercial, and non-printing tasks such as gluing and stitching.

Finding an MIS that could handle all of its production lines in one system was something that was a must for them.

At The Print Show in 2015, MRP discussed its requirements with Imprint, which started thinking about an all-encompassing solution that would mean the company could estimate, plan, track, and invoice its diverse product ranges. This system started to be installed in July and Imprint hopes to have the system live by the end of the autumn.

To be able to produce quotes within the one system will save us masses of time and make the department far more efficient

Stephen Bates, managing director at MRP, says: “The three main reasons we choose Imprint were firstly, the multiple function estimating—our estimators are dealing with 100s of estimates a week, one could be for 1,000 four-page A4 brochures, the next for 50,000 bespoke labels, and the next one could be 5,000 bespoke carton bases and lids. To be able to produce quotes within the one system will save us masses of time and make the department far more efficient.

“The second reason is job traceability. The production planning board is very easy to use and with shop floor data collection the whole company can see exactly where a job is in production all from their desks.

“And thirdly was the flexibility of the system. We want our MIS to work the way we do and not have to change the way we work to suit the MIS, and Imprint will do exactly that.”

Using Imprint’s Document Generator, Imprint gives MRP specific multi-page job bag features that gives specific information to types of work, which makes the high level of job booking faster and less prone to error.

Imprint’s Production Control is said to be easy to use as it looks like a traditional production board. It is a multi-user system, so if you move an item on one screen, it moves on the others. It can work standalone or with the rest of the system.
