Taking over from James Tye, chief executive officer of Dennis Publishing, Bureau will work alongside current chairman, Marcus Rich, chief executive of TI Media. Bureau will then become PPA chair for two years from January 1st, 2020.

Prior to launching Immediate Media in 2011, Bureau co-founded Silicon Media Group in 1998 which was sold to CNET Networks in 2002. Most recently, he joined London digital cross-media publisher, Magicalia, as chief executive officer in 2008. Magicalia was later merged with BBC Magazines to create Immediate Media Co.

The publishing house now publishes over 70 interest-based, multi-platform brands, maintains over 50 websites and employs over 1,100 staff. 60% of the company’s profit is generated by the Radio Times, which is now spearheading the company’s moves into online retailing.

A new and rejuvenated PPA has emerged, with a clearer offer to members focussed on really changing the conversation

Commenting, Barry Mclheney, chief executive officer of the PPA says: “I am thrilled that Tom has taken on this vital and important role, especially at such an exciting time for the industry and the PPA. Following a root-and-branch review of the PPA’s service to members over the past year, a new and rejuvenated PPA has emerged, with a clearer offer to members focussed on really changing the conversation and delivering on key areas where the industry can do better, together.”

“It’s a real pleasure to take on the role of deputy chairman and I look forward to being able to provide my full support to both Marcus and Barry,” adds Bureau. “Having been involved with the PPA for many years, I know how essential the work they do on our behalf is. I’m looking forward to working with the PPA team to drive our industry forward through an exciting chapter.”
