Fine paper and packaging company, Mondi, has partnered with VAFO Group to create a range of recyclable materials for dog food packaging to be distributed throughout Finland.

Mondi has helped a Finnish premium dog food brand replace its old, metallised packaging

Mondi, which creates uncoated fine paper and pulp through its many suppliers and offices based throughout the UK and Europe, produces its materials via its six paper mills across Austria, Russia, Slovakia, and South Africa.

The company’s focus is to be “sustainable by design” using paper wherever possible, and only using plastic when useful. Mondi’s latest mono-material solution stays true to their commitment to eco solutions, helping other companies in reducing their environmental impact.

The new packaging is for Hau-Hau Champion, a part of VAGO Group, a European leader in premium pet food, helping the brand to be one of Finland’s most recognised dog foods products.

Given that this is a premium product, we are especially pleased with the high-quality finish.

Suvi Sillvan, brand specialist at Hau-Hau Champion says: “With Hau-Hau’s brand refresh, we were looking for packaging that fully aligns with our commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of our products and operations.

“Given that this is a premium product, we are especially pleased with the high-quality finish, including the printing, which retains brand familiarity on the shelf and informs consumers that they can easily recycle our dog food packs. The new packaging material also fully supports the fact that all our dry dog foods are now completely CO2 neutral through carbon emission compensation.”

The project meant Mondi and Hau-Hau worked together to create a high-barrier solution that can be easily reclosed, while keeping food fresh, and stench free. The collaboration took place as part of Mondi’s EcoSolutions, a customer-centric approach to working with companies and partners.
