EFI pulls out of Drupa 2021

Electronics For Imaging (EFI) has become the latest major brand to withdraw from the rearranged Drupa 2021 global exhibition, due to ongoing concerns about the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.

Drupa had been due to take place earlier this year, but was pushed back to April 2021, with a shorter run time, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, organisers have been dealt a series of major blows in recent weeks with the withdrawal of some of Drupa’s largest exhibitors, with the likes of HP, Kodak, Fujifilm, Heidelberg, Xerox, Manroland, Zecher, Screen and Bobst all pulling out.

EFI has now joined the exodus, with chairman and chief executive Jeff Jacobson saying that with uncertainty over the Covid-19 crisis, the manufacturer could not commit to the event.

“Our company has a long, positive history with Drupa, as do I personally, having also run two companies that have been major Drupa exhibitors in the past,” he says.

“The show has always represented some of the best of what can be accomplished at an in-person event for the global print industry.

All of us at EFI look forward to future Drupa events beyond 2021 – and to other industry tradeshows – once the world has clearly moved past the current pandemic

“But, with the limited amount of knowledge anyone can have right now about what conditions will be for public gatherings early next year, withdrawing from Drupa 2021 is an unfortunate albeit prudent decision.

“All of us at EFI look forward to future Drupa events beyond 2021 – and to other industry tradeshows – once the world has clearly moved past the current pandemic.”

The Covid-19 crisis has also caused EFI to cancel a number of its own in-person events, including its annual EFI Connect users conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the US.

Instead, the manufacturer will run EFI Engage, a digital conference featuring training, education, new technology news and partner developments for its customers from January 25th to February 5th next year.
