Magazine launch addresses market gap

At a time when women’s print titles are becoming digitalised or closing, a new magazine aimed at women over the age of 55 has been launched by DC Thomson Media to fill a gap in the market.

The new publication addresses a gap in the market for women aged over 55

According to the Professional Publishers Association, 66% of over 55s say they feel misrepresented by the media and the launch of Platinum plans to address this.

The monthly publication will feature in-depth reads on health, wellbeing, style, travel, and financial advice, as well as challenging issues relevant to this particular demographic, encouraging readers to “live life on full power”.

Ali Kirker, editor of Platinum, comments: “Our research has consistently shown women who are over 55, the majority of whom are entering a new life phase, feel there isn’t a magazine that informs and reflects their life.”

Readers can expect content from experts and regular columnists such as Dr Dawn Harper, stylist Gail Rolfe, technology journalist Maggie Philbin, and columnist Jane Moore.

Women in the over 55 demographic are in the prime of their lives and having the time of their lives – a force to be reckoned with and the glue that holds generations together

DC Thomson Media has a long history in women’s magazine publishing, and it is this expertise that Maria Welch, head of magazines at the publishing company, says will help the new publication to succeed.

Welch says: “Women in the over 55 demographic are in the prime of their lives and having the time of their lives – a force to be reckoned with and the glue that holds generations together. They are both committed magazine readers and powerful consumers and no one understands them better than the team at DC Thomson Media.”

Platinum will be stocked in over 20,000 outlets across the UK including major supermarkets, high street retailers and independent newsagents.
