In preparation for its busiest period during September and October, Route 1 Print is investing in its fourth Heidelberg press.

The firm has invested in its second Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106

The firm has secured the purchase of a new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106 B1 LEUV press with Cutstar which it says will increase its litho capacities by around 35% to 68,000sp/h.

The press will join another Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106, a Heidelberg SX 102, as well as an eight-colour and a ten-colour Heidelberg XL 75.

The new machine will be used for flyers and longer run booklet work, but will also allow the company room to produce a range of different products including business stationery and folded work.

Route 1 Print entered 2019 with £6m investment after a successful 2018, during which it was awarded UK Business of the Year in the European Business Awards for businesses with a turnover of £26m to £150m.

We always hit our peak period in September/October, so every year we ensure that we’re well prepared for when the time comes

As part of its continued investment in equipment, the firm is also preparing to install what is believed to be the UK’s first Landa press later this year.

Mark Young, head of Route 1 Print, comments on the investment: “The current XL 106 has been instrumental in what we’re trying to achieve here, which is offering low-cost, high quality and fast turnaround print to our customers. So we’re really excited to be having the second press installed.

“We always hit our peak period in September/October, so every year we ensure that we’re well prepared for when the time comes. The new press allows us to increase our capacity even further so we can continue to provide our customers with the high level of service that they’re used to from us.”
