Archroma India is set to acquire BSAF’s manufacturing unit at Ankleshwar, India, where 100 employees are based. The firm will take over the stilbene-based optical brightening agents (OBA) business for paper and powder detergent applications.

This is the latest in a line of acquisitions in which Archroma took on BASF’s textile chemicals business, as well as M. Dohmen, which specialises in the production of textile dyes and chemicals for automotive, carpet and apparel sectors.

Marcos Furrer, president of Packaging & Paper Specialities at Archroma, explains that the acquisition of BASF India will allow Archroma to both strengthen its OBA supply in the paper and packaging industry and develop its portfolio in the detergents market with powder OBAs.

We are extremely pleased with this opportunity to further consolidate our position as a global leader in the chemical industry by expanding both our supply capacity and application markets

Furrer continues: “We are extremely pleased with this opportunity to further consolidate our position as a global leader in the chemical industry by expanding both our supply capacity and application markets.”

Narayan Krishnamoham, managing director of BASF India adds: “In line with BASF’s strategy of actively managing its portfolio, this transaction allows us to better fulfil our business potential. Archroma is a global leader in colour and speciality chemicals. Ensuring a smooth transition of our customers, suppliers and employees to Archroma will be a priority.”
