The acquisition is part of the Westcoast Group’s strategy to grow and strengthen the distribution sector

The print firm will continue its operations as an autonomous business from its Maidenhead offices, continuing with the same portfolio of products, services and staff.

ArtSystems, which is part of the Westcoast Group, will assist Colourgen in broadening the portfolio of products and revenues available through its channels.

“Looking ahead, we believe this acquisition will produce a more attractive proposition to existing and potential suppliers,” says Steve Hawker, managing director of ArtSystems. “Whilst the company is retaining its key specialist attributes, the backing and reach of the Westcoast Group will ensure that their offering reaches a much wider audience.”

The strategy behind the Westcoast Group’s investment in the distribution sector is that a closer cooperation between companies within the group will generate new investment and growth opportunities for the brands.

Following the acquisition, Jeff Biggs, who founded Colourgen in 1987, will retire from the business, having played a large role in the growth of the wide-format print market in the UK.

Managing director Mark Lambert will continue in a management role at Colourgen. Lambert comments: “It is our belief that Colourgen and its customers will grow and prosper under this new structure, and that we will achieve even greater results moving forward.”

Colourgen is the exclusive UK distributor for the Mutoh sign and display, speciality/industrial, dye-sublimation and direct-to-textile printers, and the Dimense structured wallcovering printer.

The firm also distributes EPSON’s aqueous large-format printers and consumables and the Kala range of laminators and finishing products.
