The new centre will be based at Coveris’ Rivendell site in Leeds

The firm launched its Pack Positive initiative earlier this year and is aiming to produce completely recyclable packaging by 2025, in line with the Government’s Plastics Pact targets. The new centre will help Coveris to develop new and innovative solutions for packaging, whilst also providing an educational space where industry professionals can connect and collaborate.

Gary Rehwinkel, president at Coveris UK comments: “We are delighted to open the Pack Positive Centre and announce our partnership with The Retail Institute at Leeds Beckett University.

“Building on Coveris’ UK Plastics Pact commitments, membership of On-Pack Recycling Label (OPRL), extensive food science and polymer science capabilities, we are determined to support our customers and retail partners in collaborating to deliver tomorrow’s packaging, today”.

The vision of the Coveris Pack Positive Centre is to become an academically informed, consumer centred and future thinking hub

The new centre, opening at the end of January 2019, will house a merchandising store, photography studio, Computer Aided Design (CAD), creative design and the installation of a new Mimaki printer. It will also provide links to satellite facilities such as Coveris’ print and conversion facilities, its polymer science facility, extensive extrusion and its Freshlife food science lab.

Olga Munroe, head of the retail institute comments on the new partnership: “The vision of the Coveris Pack Positive Centre is to become an academically informed, consumer centred and future thinking hub that will deliver holistic innovation services to the packaging industry.

“The Retail Institute is delighted to be partners in Coveris’ endeavour, and excited to provide support for an ambitious and important facility that will support the future of packaging.”
