Deltor kicks into gear with new K8

Cornish print outfit Deltor has revealed that increased pressure on turnaround times, pricing, and a need for zero wasted runs, has seen it spend a whopping £200,000 on a new MBO K8 fully automatic folder.

The machine was installed at the beginning of November, and will join the company’s existing Wohlenberg binder and MBO B30 buckle folders. Deltor are no strangers to Friedheim International’s services, with the company investing in a Sagitta 76 in 2016.

“We’ve been firing on all cylinders since it’s gone in – we’ve probably doubled our folding speed,” says Sam Shannon, managing director of Delta, adding: “As we’ve also got PUR binding and stitching in-house, we were previously coming in some days and it was a case of having to fold and get the binder running overnight or fold and get the stitchers running.”

Shannon continues: “We wanted to be more competitive on the longer run section work against some of our competitors. We’re quite a small company but we’ve got quite big firepower because we’re running a 10-colour Manroland 700 perfector and now with a high-speed folder, it just allows us to be a bit of a thorn in the side to some of the big boys.”

Whilst the MBO is the latest installation, Deltor has been investing £3m in plant equipment over the last few years. In 2016, they company purchased and installed a Ricoh Pro C9100, and in 2013 moved to B2 with an investment in a Komori Lithrone S429.

“Now we’re coming in and all of the booklet machines are able to run. Where we’re seeing the biggest impact is on other areas of the finishing department – while we’ve really increased our folding speed, it’s allowed us to be more efficient in all areas,” says Shannon.
