Dolly, Glastonbury... and the Heidelberg [+vid]

Glastonbury-goers over the last few days have been enjoying Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian, but there has been another act returning with more headlining experience than all of them put together.

Dolly Parton: the press is working to produce the festival's news

The Glastonbury Free Press is back and, just as last year, it is being churned out of a beautiful 1957 seven-ton vintage Original Heidelberg Cylinder letterpress, which miraculously survived the winter in Worthy Farm’s shed.

For the rest of its festival time, the punters will be offered a chance to print their own one-off posters as they learn about the bygone age of cylinder press printing

Oiled-up and ship-shape, the classic machine has already produced one daily paper onsite, with another to be printed on Sunday. As the machine prints at a rate of 3,000 sheets an hour, the press will have to run through the night to complete all the work including the latest news on Dolly Parton and her appearance on stage.

For the rest of its festival time, the punters will be offered a chance to print their own one-off posters as they learn about the bygone age of cylinder press printing.
