Finishing equipment distributor Ashgate has announced the availability of the new Fastbind Pureva Smart, a PUR and EVA binder suitable for on-demand and short run digital print finishing.

The Fastbind Pureva Smart is available in the UK through distributor Ashgate

The semi-automated binder had been scheduled to launch at Drupa 2020, but the device is now available in the UK through Ashgate.

Key features on the machine include the ability to bind both hard and soft back books up to A3 portrait, with the choice of PUR or EVA glue adhesive applicators.

Automation also plays a major role, with the operator able to input parameters for the book with predefined programmes via the user interface, selecting the type of cover, type of paper, format and other options

The Fastbind Pureva Smart then self-adjusts to create the most suitable binding for the job, which Ashgate and Fastbind say make the process easier for users.

It is a fully equipped ergonomic workstation. Compact, silent, clean and safe, it fits into any modern digital environment or shop

Roughening, gluing and nipping functions are also automated for precision and consistency, according to Ashgate, while a light curtain serves as a presence   detection device and stops the operation as soon as any danger is detected.

Ashgate managing director Lewis Price comments: “The Fastbind Pureva Smart will meet the demands of our customers who want ease of operation, consistency and speed that automation brings for longer runs, although it is equally efficient for single copies upwards.

“It is a fully equipped ergonomic workstation. Compact, silent, clean and safe, it fits into any modern digital environment or shop.”
