Saving the oceans with Blake Envelopes

It is no longer a secret how much the level of plastic used in day-to-day life is affecting the planet. With a surge in public consciousness and a recognition of the scale of the problem we are faced with, more companies are looking for ways to combat this crisis.

According to National Geographic, an estimated 18 billion pounds of plastic waste enters the world’s ocean from coastal regions each year

Blake Envelopes has launched a new plastic-free packaging brand which has been designed to address both the use of plastic and over-packing by reducing excess packaging waste.

The VITA brand of products provides a paper alternative to pre-existing plastic e-commerce postal solutions. Included in the environmentally friendly range are kraft paper mailing bags, 100% recycled and recyclable padded cushion bags, paper bags, and a range of recycled corrugated cardboard boxes.

The new range provides sustainable solutions to products such as polythene mailing bags, padded bubble envelopes, and plastic carrier bags.

Chief executive officer of Blake Envelopes, Michael Barter, explains that as a father of five, he was shocked to see the amount of plastic waste surrounding his children’s feet during trips to the seaside.

In recent years, nothing grieved me more than to see plastic waste emblazoned with some of the country’s best-known brands swirling around the children’s feet

Barter says: “In recent years, nothing grieved me more than to see plastic waste emblazoned with some of the country’s best-known brands swirling around the children’s feet. A clear indicator of the enormity of the damage that plastic pollution is having on the life forms in our oceans.

“Therefore the launching of Blake’s VITA plastic-free postal packaging brands comes from a sense of responsibility and emotion. As a market leader in the supply of postal packaging products, we at Blake have a responsibility to act and do what we can to curtail the issue of plastic on our rivers, coastlines and oceans.”

A portion of the money raised through VITA sales will be donated by the firm’s own organisation - The Blake Foundation - to selected marine conservation programmes.
