Businesses encouraged to recycle Christmas cards

The DCB Group has introduced a Christmas recycling initiative to raise money for local charity, Forever Manchester.

Research by the London Cleaning System found that 300,000 tonnes of card packaging are used at Christmas, with 1bn Christmas cards ending up in the bin when they could be recycled.

For every tonne of waste received, £50 will be donated to Forever Manchester, a charity that raises money to fund and support community activity across Greater Manchester.

The initiative calls for businesses in and around Greater Manchester to sign up to recycle Christmas waste and raise money for a community charity.

Although charities estimate that £50m is raised for good causes through the sales of charity Christmas cards each year, DCB wants to make it easier for businesses in Greater Manchester to recycle their festive cards and wrapping paper whilst doing it for a cause

The group is made up of print management company Print Search, creative and design agency Caspa, and print-on-demand company Aspen.

Although charities estimate that £50m is raised for good causes through the sales of charity Christmas cards each year, DCB wants to make it easier for businesses in Greater Manchester to recycle their festive cards and wrapping paper whilst doing it for a cause.

If partakers donate their Christmas cards and wrapping by late December and into January, the recycled material can be brought back into production as early as March 2019. This shows just how effective and efficient recycling can be - with the alternative being the waste sitting in landfill for years to come.
