MHI celebrates two sustainable decades

Following over two decades of sustainable business practice, Mail Handling International (MHI), has been named “Green Business of the Year” by Business Leader 2019. The company hopes this recognition will encourage others in the industry to commit to the planet and the sector.

MHI has been recognised after over two decades of sustainable practice

Although it endeavours to maintain a sustainable operation in an industry of paper, print and international delivery at all times, over the years, the firm has been pushing the boundaries to reduce its environmental impact even further.

MHI assesses all areas of the business and investigates various ways to be sustainable and reduce its carbon footprint. From an eco-friendly parcel consolidation service, to 100% compostable magazine wrapping, to the installation of 173 solar panels on its digital print and warehouse facilities.

Calum White, head of marketing explains what the award means to the company: “This recognition is the culmination of over two decades of work dedicated to improving our sustainable business practice. Investing in solar panels, electric vehicles and Cycle-2-Work schemes are the tangible examples of MHI’s evangelism on climate change.

“Above all, winning this award as a company with print at its core emphasises that an industry relying on paper and international transport can rise above other businesses to prove its relevance as part of the modern communications mix.”

MHI hopes that winning the “Business Leader: Green Business of the Year Award” enthuses others in the print industry to prove their commitment to the planet and the sector

MHI operates in an economically challenged area of Bristol, and in addition to its sustainable efforts, provides employment to locals.

White describes the company’s ethos as “embedded in the culture of the company”, and says it “stems from the top, with founders Paul and Alex”. He adds: “MHI provides stable employment to local, operational staff – ensuring a fantastic mixture of cultures and backgrounds which furthers our work towards the “sustainable cities” UN objectives.

“MHI hopes that winning the “Business Leader: Green Business of the Year Award” enthuses others in the print industry to prove their commitment to the planet and the sector; illustrating that investing in a sustainable ethos will be rewarded and recognised.”
