Blake is a manufacturer of envelopes and postal packaging, producing 1600 different envelope products and bespoke solutions.

One venture was the opening of Blake USA, a warehouse, stock, and sales office with trading commencing in July.

Blake strengthened its team by employing an additional 20 people – in the hope to strengthen its portfolio of services and stock. To cater for its growing overseas business, multilingual staff were also employed.

The envelope firm invested £2.7m in new equipment and a new production factory, increasing its manufacturing capabilities greatly. It also opened more Hubs of Excellence, bringing up the number of locations to six in the UK.

We are mindful of clouds gathering on the horizon with the uncertainty of Brexit, however at Blake we don’t just put our heads under the covers hoping that it will all go away, we plan. Every business needs to know where it is going, and the staff need the confidence that the leaders have a vision, and in the case of Blake, we have a clear vision and strategy

The idea behind its Hubs of Excellence is to immerse Blake into some of the most strategic locations across the UK, making it far easier for the business to develop relationships with experts in the industry.

As well as investing a large sum of money and time into expanding and developing the company, Blake has also launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, ‘Giving Hope through Education’. The programme provides children in disadvantaged situations with learning materials.

Reflecting on the past year, Michael Barter, chief executive officer of Blake, says: “When I reflect on the seeds that have been sown in 2018, it has laid the basis for the crop to be reaped over the next few years.

“We are mindful of clouds gathering on the horizon with the uncertainty of Brexit, however at Blake we don’t just put our heads under the covers hoping that it will all go away, we plan. Every business needs to know where it is going, and the staff need the confidence that the leaders have a vision, and in the case of Blake, we have a clear vision and strategy.
