Business as usual for Fretwell Print in MBO

It is business as usual for Fretwell Print and Direct Mail as the firm has been bought out by its managers.

Gareth Pociecha and Andy Gillett are the new managing directors at Fretwell Print

Ownership of the firm has transferred to Andy Gillett and Gareth Pociecha, who are now joint managing directors. Gillett has been the commercial director for the last 20 years at the firm, whilst Pociecha has served as the works manager for nearly 15 years.

“It’s business as usual here. I’ve been here 23 years, 20 of those spent as the commercial director so it’s not much of step-up in terms of already being responsible for the company commercially,” says Gillett.

The previous owners, brothers Des and Graeme Fretwell have retired along with previous director Peter Thomas, who Gillett said was the “driving force” in achieving ISO accreditations for the firm.

It was a very friendly MBO and we wish them all the best. We just want to take the business and move it forward

The MBO was financed through existing funds and Lupton Fawcett provided legal advice on the deal, which was finalised on September 4th. Michele Phillips of Lupton Fawcett comments: “Andy and Gareth have been at Fretwell for a long time and know the business very well. We are pleased to have been able to help them buy it, and I am sure it will go from strength to strength under their ownership. We wish them every success in the future.”

The firm, based on the outskirts of Leeds, has a 40-year history in the industry delivering print and mail services across the country. It is also the only independent full-service UK provider of PostAim sortation for the Irish Republic. The business reports an annual turnover of £6m.

“It was a family-owned business, it still is a family-owned business just by two different families – myself and Gareth. It was a very friendly MBO and we wish them all the best. We just want to take the business and move it forward,” says Gillett. “We’re building on very firm foundations.”
