Celebrating the technical side of print

The print industry is a very technical sector, and the BAPC Awards aim to celebrate just that. Take away the glitz and glamour of an awards ceremony, and the BAPC are rewarding the hard-working, people orientated businesses that support their customers.

The BAPC Awards are unlike any other awards scheme, as it celebrates simplicity, the technical side, and focuses on recognising companies on the aspects that truly affect them and the customer.

Each entrant is looked at by an independent panel of judges, and each judge will specialise in each sector focused on.
Sidney Bobb, chairman of the BAPC, explains: “We have a team of outside specialists, including an accountant, specialist in marketing, lawyer, copywriter, and designer. They are nothing to do with the BAPC, but give us their time once a year. I get all of the nominations in, I pass the nominations to them, and then they come back to me.”

The awards are free to enter, and each print firm does not need to send in an example of their work, all the team have to do is email the BAPC their interest in entering the awards scheme. Even customers can nominate a business for an award. The three categories include: Business of the Year; Environmental Printer of the Year; and Supplier of the Year.

Bobb continues: “The accountant looks at the Business of the Year, and goes through and does some financial calculations, and the marketing judge looks at the marketing side, and they also organise some secret shopping.

“A lot of awards focus on the design and not on the technical side. We want our print awards to be decided on the way people treat their customers, and how they’re running their business.”

Eventual winners of each category will be invited to a luncheon hosted by sponsors Ricoh and Two Sides UK.
