The real picture

Inkjet, as discussed in my feature Inkjet: The Real Picture on page 41, really is a buzzword for the global print industry. It has started to eclipse toner-based printing and technologies such as litho, and remains widely discussed at most big industry events. Take the recent EFI Connect, for example. The very first talk saw Guy Gecht, chief executive officer of EFI, say: “The enabling platforms are inkjet and smart automation.”

It was then the following day that saw Ken Hanulec, vice president, inkjet marketing at EFI, lead a talk about inkjet. In an exclusive interview with Print Monthly, he said: “The benefit of inkjet technology is that because it’s a contactless-based printing, it opens up the opportunity to print on just about anything. It is up to the creativity of the designer, brand owner, or marketeer. The future of inkjet is clearly heading down a path towards single pass technology.”

Development in the inkjet sector is gathering pace, with improvements being made in terms of speed, image quality, and the wide range of media that can be printed on. It is clearly an area of the market that looks very promising for all the big printing technology manufacturers, therefore, I expect we will see a lot more developments as time goes on. Also do not forget to check out Trade Comment on page 32 for even more advice from the experts in this field about whether or not you should invest in inkjet.
